Sounds like a considered decision. Blogging is also the first thing to go for me when life is truly busy.

But I would also encourage you to keep the blog up... and stay open to the possibility of blogging into the future.

Everything we do is full of mixed motives, and whilst we should constantly look for an honest assessment of ourselves, this doesn't necessarily mean we stop doing what we're doing if there are some mixed motives involved.

But great news about your ministry apprenticeship. I hope it is a really valuable time of personal growth in Jesus. And who knows, you might even end up back on the blog from time to time reflecting over some of the things you're learning.

Can I make a suggestion - don't delete your blog. Just leave it around, turn off comments maybe, so you don't get spammed, but then if/when you decide to start blogging again in a few years, we'll all know about it :)

I use the dev channel (which occasionally breaks stuff, but you get the newest features.

I'd suggest possibly running on the beta channel, it's got a whole lot more features, but isn't as unstable as the dev channel.

Piper wrote a post on sex and violence in movies/TV a while back and I thought it was really good at describing why Christians can take the violence but not the sex.

To paraphrase:

I know the violence is all fake, the actors aren't really hurting each other, it's all special effects. But when I see a nude lady, that is really her body and incites real lust.

That's the difference.

That's the reason that I've been romanced by it - I can't remember all those awesome 'nuggets' (nice name) in books, even though I'm so impacted by them. And you're right, rather marked books that have made lasting impact than books that are just a collection of paper on a shelf!

What're your thoughts on making notes of these nuggets and keeping them in with the book/in a spreadsheet?

I was against it, but then I realised that I could never remember what I'd read, or find a nugget of goodness again when I returned to the book some time later. So I mark up my books - pen and highlighter. I'd rather have a shelf of well-read, messed up books, than lots of pretty books that I haven't read or can't remember!

I think that a Genocide like this is fairly good proof of the existence of a real Devil. Otherwise we have to conclude that we are better than they are, or more educated (such that we are more moral!)

I'm not prepared to say that. But I am prepared to say that the Devil is real, and prowls like a roaring lion. And consequently, people do terrible things.
